About

We have been singing together since meeting in the early 1990s. Chris will tell you that she learned many of the songs listening to her older brothers’ LPs when they were all growing up. We both love a wide range of music, but have found that acoustic folk suits us especially well.

Paul started playing guitar as a teenager back in the 1960s and performed in a folk duo in Exeter during his University days. A career in primary schools followed and most of his music was connected with children’s songs. However retirement gave him time to focus on singing and improving his guitar playing.

We have both performed with the Bishop’s Place Singers for the past few years. The group, now known as ONE ACCORD, is an ensemble choir which also encourages members to perform solos and duets.  2012 Concerts included: 16th June at Dartington Hall for the Royal British Legion and on 23rd June at Lupton House, 10th November for RBL at St Luke’s Church, Buckfastleigh.

We have both had successes in local music festivals, especially in the folk music sections. In the Torbay & SW England Festival May 2012, Paul’s version of Don MacLean’s Vincent and Chris’ “Cry Me a River” earned them both  “distinction”. Both received special awards for their singing.

Paul plays a Martin D18,  a Mahogany Martin 00015M, a Tanglewood 12 string  and a Prudencio Saez G9 Spanish Guitar. The latter was given to him as a present by his old school community in 2008. He then had just over a year of lessons with the expert guitarist Mike Edmonds, who ran the iconic Blue Walnut Arts Cafe in Chelston, Torquay.  Mike encouraged us to perform at the cafe during a restaurant evening.

We were very honoured to play at the special tribute evening for Mike at the Toorak Hotel, after his untimely death in 2010.  We sang “Scarborough Fair”  and “Johnny I Hardly knew Ya”  in a strong programme which included many local musicians and singers who had connections with Mike and the Blue Walnut.

Since then, we have had four successful folk night gigs at the Blue Walnut. We were very grateful to Debbie and Gary the  owners of the cafe for giving us the opportunity.

We enjoyed playing regularly at the iconic Ryan’s Bar in Torquay until the pub changed hands in 2013. Great experience of performing in a working pub setting. Chris got so  many lovely compliments – famously someone once suggested that she is so good she should go solo! (Paul cried!)

We have given several Folk Inspired concerts at Lupton Hall, Churston Ferrars, Nr Brixham, appeared at charity events (Folky Foxy Festival in St Marychurch), community events (Folk In a Box), private concerts/gigs and much more….
